2 - AI, Power Bible, and Calibre
something I watched
There’s endless talk in tech circles about the advances in AI. Outside of tech circles, the mainstream public doesn’t know much about the latest trends like Dall-e or ChatGPT. This video by Alex Hormozi is a good synopsis looking at the current state and its potentially radical impact in the near future especially for a business perspective.
This short blog post from Seth Godin Patterns, culture and theft discusses how AI will become a significant cultural shift for all creators. My take is he’s encouraging we embrace AI because it will accelerate human creation, not destroy it, and it will add to the greater whole.
something I read
I read The Power Bible by William Beteet and Brendon Lemon. The guys are stand-up comics and work day-time jobs. It sounded Brendon does software sales and William is a lawyer. I read it because it was highly recommended by James Altucher in his book Skip the Line. I didn’t care for the philosophical dialog style they used. The book felt choppy as it jumped from one topic to another. It was difficult to get a sense of the whole. On the other hand I do like these underground type of books.
The main gist is to understand frame control. In any social situation or conversation try to have awareness on who’s trying to control perception and direction. And ask yourself if you are comfortable with it. I liked the various stories the authors shared about situations where it showed where they successfully used frame control or failed at it. The ideal spot is the willingness to walk away at anytime. To take smart action and not wrap your self-worth around the outcome or what they call outcome independence.
something I did
I have a collection of over 2,600 books. I originally kept them in various folders on my desktop. It was messy. I found a solution with Calibre, a free software program.
Calibre has endless setting options. Calibre can download covers and metadata. It can send books directly to my Kindle address. It can merge multiple formats of book under a single entry in the library. It can do automatic conversion of books.
My favorite part is the plugins environment. These are tools submitted by other developers and available in Calibre. One example I liked was Find Duplicates which helped me clean out a dozen or so duplicates I had.
